Incident First Responder (IFR) (Volunteer)

The Incident First Responder (IFR) at EFPRP is an essential role, responsible for providing immediate, on-the-ground response during environmental incidents, especially wildfires. 

As an IFR, you will be among the first to arrive at an incident scene, assessing the situation, controlling initial threats, and implementing emergency protocols to protect people, property, and the environment. 

Working closely with the Incident Director and local emergency teams, the IFR ensures a rapid, efficient response and helps prevent the spread of fires or other hazards. 

This role requires physical resilience, quick decision-making, and the ability to operate in challenging outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly deploy to incident sites to assess and respond to fires or environmental hazards.
  • Control and contain initial threats, securing the area and minimizing risks to communities.
  • Provide real-time updates to the Incident Manager and emergency personnel regarding the scale and nature of the incident.
  • Assist in incident recovery efforts, including environmental clean-up and support for affected communities.
  • Use firefighting and safety equipment effectively to contain and control incidents.

Must Have

  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform in demanding conditions.
  • Ability to stay calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong communication skills in English and an additional European language.
  • Experience in firefighting, emergency response, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience in environmental conservation or rural community outreach.
  • Knowledge of wildfire behavior and fire control techniques.
  • Training in advanced emergency response or safety protocols.
  • Additional language skills.
